Would you support a pitch trust?

Should Millwall consider putting The Den into a Fans Trust Scheme?

Fellow Millwall Fans

As some of you already know by now, I am Mickey from SaveOurMillwall and I have always wanted what is best for our club and know that some people were getting concerned that there was a hidden political agenda, which there is not.

I have now had a couple of meetings with Lewisham and it keeps coming up about the pitch being put into a Fans Trust Scheme which I would fully support but I have no way of doing this as we are not a charity and this would take too long to set up. Maybe, a body like the Lions Trust could be the ideal platform. I am yet to speak with them, as this is just an idea and wanted to see if other fans agree that this is worth looking at in a bit more detail?

The reason for doing this is that I think the Millwall Chairman, John Berylson really wants what is best for us. I also do not think his Chestnut Hill Ventures (CHV) would leave us anytime soon.

I also do not think the ground is at risk from Renewal or Lewisham but I do not always believe everything I am told.

So why put the pitch in to a Fans Trust?

Because it offers us the best protection for our ground! I fully understand it’s not needed at the moment, but in 10-20 years we don’t know who will own our club. And we do not know who will be in power at Lewisham. We also don’t know how the regeneration will pan out.

Therefore, this could be a way of adding more security to our club in making sure we stay at The Den for the life of our lease, which is 132 years. Way after I will be in the ground, but so my kids and your kids can carry on going to The Den.

The reason for putting the idea out there now is that there are currently ongoing lease negotiations between CHV and Lewisham Council about the lease of the three parcels of land around and including the lease on The Den.

We would like the negotiations to include the input of a Fans Trust on the pitch of Millwall Football Club just like what has been done at other clubs.

We do not know if the Lions Trust would be interested in maybe running this or even if CHV would be interesting in letting the pitch go into a Fans Trust.

We did see that a Fan-on-the-Board (FOTB) candidate had this idea in their manifesto,

I don’t know even if this could happen or if fans would want it. So I am asking the question, would other fans support it?

So please, let me know if you would support this idea and I would then speak with other parties to say fans have shown an interest.

Thanks

Mickey
